Stella Adler
Stella Adler was presented as part of the Page to Stage Festival at The Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and later for the National Yiddish Book Center’s second annual Paper Bridge Summer Arts Festival.
Washington Women in Theater presented it at The Warehouse Theatre in Washington, DC, in July 2005, as part of its “Petticoats and Politics" new play festival. The production featured Marilyn Hausfeld as Stella and Terence Aselford as Harold. Karen Berman directed.
Susan Lynskey, who co-directed a production with Karen Berman for the Festival at Flashpoint in Washington, DC, made key changes to the script in July-August 2009.
A dramatic comedy set in the 1950s era of McCarthyism, Stella Adler is the life story of the glamorous former Hollywood actress Stella Adler, daughter of the great Yiddish actor Jacob Adler. Stella is blacklisted but, with perseverance and humor, she finds her creative soul and establishes the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting.
